I found Four Sales on this website and attended their sale in Fairfax Station. You need more companies like this! They are very professional and knowledgeable. I will definitely be attending more of their sales.

Four Sales organized, marketed and ran an Estate Sale of contents of our childhood home.
Four Sales is superb. Our father passed away and we were faced with the challenge of "de-accessioning" 50 years of accumulated possessions, including antique furniture, non-antiques furniture, household goods, jewelry, clothing, sports equipment, toys, records, books, in addition to all the papers, photos, and memorabilia of our parents' lives. A daunting task. We wanted to make every effort to find good homes for all of the things, rather than sending perfectly usable stuff to the landfill. Four Sales really helped us accomplish that goal.
Four Sales sent a person to go through the house with us and advise us on our possible courses of action: estate sale, auction, or charity donation, etc. He gave us very good guidance as to what would likely sell and whether the house contained sufficient goods to make an on-site estate sale worth our while. That's the path we chose. And we are glad that we did.
The week before the sale, Four Sales staff came and set everything up in the house so that the sale would be orderly, secure, and successful. Their experienced staff also priced all of the items in advance. Some may have been over-priced; some perhaps a little under-priced, but we were given the opportunity to change any prices we didn't agree with, tho we didn't change any. We accepted their professional recommendations.
The sales team was great. The leader (Mark) checked in with me regularly while setting up to make sure they were doing everything according to our wishes. And he checked in with me during the sale. Ad, he always maintained good humor and positive approach. The whole team was very courteous and respectful of our property. And they ran a great sale.
Four Sales has a long track record of estate sales and a great following. They market their sales well . . . on a number of different websites and through their own very large mailing list. Thus, they get a good turn-out. Thus, they were able to sell the majority of things in the house. Additionally, they have great connections with collectors and dealers, so they were able to attract buyers for some of the valuable but quirky pieces we had to sell.
We felt they could have also put some signs up on key intersections in the neighborhood to further attract area residents. They did give us a letter to put in neighbors' mailboxes to let them know of the sale (and the potential traffic).
Their photos of our things which they used on the website to promoted the sale could have been much better. Some were so dark that you couldn't see what was being featured. Some others needed to be more thoughtfully staged; items were photographed with boxes and junk in the background, which didnt show them very well. But, this is minor. I don't think the results suffered. And the company removed the bad photos when I called this to their attention.
Anyway, we felt fortunate to have had the help, experience, professionalism and network of this company to help us through this difficult time.
Oh, the other great thing was that we were able to bring things from our own houses that we didn't want anymore and add them to the sale. That was great.

Four Sales conducted an estate sale in our home from May 2-4 in Great Falls, VA. The company was recommended to me and my husband by a former neighbor. They had to work with our short time frame as when I called them, the only dates available to do the sale (since our closing was only 18 days later) was the following two weekends and they managed to fit us in for the immediate next weekend of those two dates we had available. They were prompt in returning calls and setting up the appointment to come and meet with us within 2 days after the call. The individual who showed up from Four Sales Ltd, Howard, was very professional and explained the whole process to us since we had never had an estate sale before and told us what to expect before, after and during the sale. They then followed up that appointment with their very friendly team of professionals who arrived at the house a few days before the sale and they set up the house for the sale. The sale went smoothly and exactly as explained to us. The results of the sale since they had such a short notice to advertise, were phenomenal. All and all, we were very happy, would recommend the company without reservation and would be happy to serve as a reference for them at any time.

Last month I faced the emotionally difficult task of dismantling my childhood home, filled with my family's treasured possessions. Enter Daniel Sanders of Four Sales Ltd., who came highly recommended by Long & Foster Realty and the Better Business Bureau. In a one-hour meeting Daniel mapped out a strategy to efficiently and compassionately remove everything from my parent’s home. He was like a military general with a heart. The two groups that came to the house on the moving day were punctual and well-organized, removing all items with sensitivity and consideration. Due to the overwhelming task at hand I had overlooked several items of both historical and sentimental value; one of the young men found the items and brought them to me. From beginning to end, Daniel and his team displayed great care, both for our home as well as for what that home and its contents mean to my family. Four Sales Ltd has my highest recommendation.

Four Sales arranged for the pickup and auctioning off of some estate items (antique furniture and related items such as glassware, plates, collectibles from overseas, etc) after my mother passed.
An unexpected passing of my relative created an estate sale need. I checked some sources and spoke to other providers and settled on Four Sales. Daniel Sanders, the owner, explained the process to me and sent over an individual to review the estate items prior to engaging any services. The cost of $500 is for a mover and helpers to come over and pick up the various pieces for sale. This individual and his helpers were very professional. They even took away some items that were not suitable for sale (non antique chair and some other broken items) since he knew we needed to vacate the location and that these pieces would be difficult to move.
Four Sales receives and auctions the items, holding back 40% in commission which seems to be about standard for these sales. We received a certified letter with the sales proceeds, net of fee, 3 weeks later.
The entire operation was smooth and professionally managed by Four Sales. Under the difficult circumstances tied to the passing of someone close, they made what could be a messy and emotional activity relatively painless.
I would recommend them to anyone interested in similar services.

I camped out the morning of the start of this estate sale and I was impressed with how well run the event was. Everyone was very helpful from the guy who let me through the door to the cashier to the person who helped me carry the item to my car. I will definitely visit another sale of theirs in the near future!!!

Provided advertising, setup and sale of household goods and car, donation of items that did not sell to Goodwill and removal of all junk and items in disrepair. Cost of services included a percentage of the sale proceeds. The event extremely well and exceeded expectations.

The owner, Daniel Sanders, came and looked at a storage unit for me and made a list of my inventory. He took a keen interest in my artwork. He is straightforward and does not mislead you. He made sure my paintings made it to special auctions and were seen by certain professionals so that I could earn the most money off of them.
They are usually ahead of time so if you need to be in a certain location to meet them plan to arrive early. They are very punctual, efficient, polite, great ambassadors for those of us who want to send items to auction.
Yes, there is a cost for them to take care of your business and it is a fair and reasonable cost. The owner, Daniel Sanders, is straight talking and will definitely take an interest in making sure you are comfortable with your decisions to downsize. He also makes sure to track you down if you move and forget to tell him. He is in the habit of following great business practices. Thanks, Four Sales! You made it easier than I could have expected and I appreciate it.

Four Sales was the answer to "What to do with all these items after having sold my parents' house?". Mr. Sanders was prompt, responsive, and so knowledgeable on a wide variety of items from jewelry to artwork and furniture to silver to nick-nacks.
After the evaluation, the sale was a week or two later, and then we received an update on the progress, and a check for all items that were sold. Quick, easy, and professional.
I will use Four Sales again and recommend them to everyone!

Four Sales provided all services related to preparation and execution of an estate sale for us. They also arranged for other vendors to help us with additional tasks that were not part of the sale itself.
Four Sales provided excellent, professional service. They were very up front about their process and related fees. They did an excellent job setting up the estate sale. In the process, they located some personal items that were not to be included in the sale and were very careful to place these items in a separate location for us so that they would not end up in the sale. The actual sale ran very smoothly. I know that the Four Sales staff had to deal with some difficult situations during the sale and they handled it very well. Our estate sale grossed far more than we had originally expected. Four Sales deserves much credit, as the sale was staged very well and the pricing was done well. After the sale, Four Sales staff did a great job disposing of unsold items and leaving the house empty and ready for sale.
In addition to the estate sale, Daniel Sanders at Four Sales was incredibly helpful in setting up other services with vendors for us. We needed debris cleared from an old barn and some old documents destroyed. Daniel contacted vendors he had worked with before, obtained estimates, and handled getting the work done for us. I highly recommend Four Sales.

Editorial note: The clearance aspects mentioned by the client with regards to the barn were significant. The highlight was our team's retreat from the fox den they discovered and the very protective vixen (mother fox) that started barking and growling at them. Daniel Sanders and Four Sales made our dreams come true. We had an opportunity of a lifetime and little time to make it happen. In the space of a few weeks we needed to: buy and sell a home; downsize our furnishings by 60%; and make a five thousand mile relocation. Did we mention the destination wedding and a major three day federal holiday? Downsizing quickly became the long-pole in our relocation.

Description Of Work: Carted away the contents of my deceased aunt's storage unit. Offered the items first in an estate sale, then the remainder at auction. Delivered the few items that didn't sell to a charity and obtained a receipt for tax purposes, which was then sent to me. Mailed a check from the estate sale and from the auction promptly. Comments: From beginning to end, I was impressed with the personal and professional service provided by Four Sales. Karen, who came to the storage unit to survey the contents, was both thoughtful about my needs as the person responsible for disposing of my aunt's real property and flexible about how best to help. This was especially important, given that my aunt's possessions were on the East Coast, and I live on the West Coast. The contents of the unit were removed promptly, as promised, and the paperwork forwarded to my aunt's estate lawyer. All services were performed in a timely manner, including the mailing of checks and receipts of the proceeds. I would not hesitate to recommend Four Sales to anyone who has similar needs for an estate. It's rare to find such sympathetic service.

Disposing of a loved one's household is never easy.
The best decision we made was contacting Four Sales. Daniel was knowledgeable and professional. He provided options and personally came to the property location within days of our contacting him.
He determined that most items were not worth the cost of inventory and appraisal and did not charge for the visit. Daniel's honesty was valued and appreciated. He arranged for the sale of the few items that could be sold. He offered suggestions for removal/ disposal of other items. He was responsive to all phone calls and emails messages in a timely manner and provided all necessary paperwork.

Four Sales managed our estate sale by pricing and organizing the contents of our home and then manning the sale over a three-day period. They did extensive advertising using print, internet, and social media which resulted in crowds coming from all over the Northern Virginia area to attend the sale. Once the sale was over, they took leftover items to charity, disposed of all trash, and swept the house clean.
Four Sales made selling the contents of my father's home from a distance as easy as it could possibly be. This company is fantastic. Daniel, the owner, earned my respect in our first phone conversation and maintained it throughout our dealings. He was always responsive, informative, and prompt. Daniel assigned a great group of people to staff the sale which ran very smoothly for the most part. In particular, Mark the foreman, was terrific. He gave me updates by phone every several hours throughout the 3-day sale, which kept me at ease about how things were going. My realtor confirms that the house is now empty and ready to be prepped for sale which was the goal.
Our family was pleased with the proceeds of the sale and the 30% commission seemed reasonable for the D.C. area. If it weren't for the fact that I live several hundred miles away from my fathers home, however, I would have looked to save money on the sale by disposing of unsold items myself. I thought the fees for trash removal ended up being higher than I anticipated and I'm sure we could have easily taken some of the items to charity ourselves. However. given the circumstances, it was still more economical and certainly much easier to have Four Sales handle these details for us.

I have had the pleasure of working with the company owner in pricing high end items for our annual church yard sale. I called and within two hours over the phone AND out of State for me, Daniel and I had contracted a liquidation sale for my Aunt's possessions in Alexandria. He did all this on VERY short notice. Four Sales was a huge help collecting and selling, at a reasonable return to my Aunt’s Estate, all the contents of her home. It was especially helpful to have such professional help since the heirs are all several states away from my Aunt’s house. Four Sales, Ltd. is a well regarded long-standing estate sale business serving the Washington DC metropolitan area. The founders have retired, but new owner and president Daniel Sanders is working hard to expand Four Sales' service area, increase the company's name recognition, and further polish the company's already excellent reputation.
My husband and I downsized but did not move. We chose Four Sales because we sensed a good fit and because Four Sales offered a variety of approaches for selling our antiques. We decided to send our inventory to Four Sales' auction partner in Madison, Virginia. We visited the site, found it clean and well organized, and liked the auctioneer. In fact, the auctioneer personally oversaw the packing and transport of our items. All that was left to do was wait. Within 90 days we received a much larger check than we had expected.
We will definitely use Four Sales again!

We were referred to Four Sales by friends who raved about their service. We can only concur in the glowing report we were given.
We had decided to dramatically downsize from a home with a large yard--lots of gardening equipment--and move to a condo, changing our lifestyle dramatically. This translated into leaving almost all our furniture and household goods behind. Four Sales could not have made it easier. Daniel went over the process and, in every case, was true to what he described, saving us huge amounts of work and the associated stress.
The professionals he enlisted were truly professional--all arrived on time, were courteous, and respectful both of the items we were giving up and the home we were leaving behind. I was overwhelmed at the service I received from Four Sales. Their knowledge, efficiency, and professionalism exceeded my every expectation and provided an "everyone-wins" solution to getting my home cleared for rental. They were even able to refer me to a residential property manager who accomplished in a week what my prior representative hadn’t done in over 2 months – get my home rented. It seems that nothing daunts them as they cheerfully take on the elements that challenged me in transitioning to my new home.

Last spring we moved from a large home in Great Falls, VA to a two bedroom apartment in New York City. After talking with the owners of several storage facilities, we learned that most people put many of their possessions in storage with the belief that they or their children would one day need the items again. Most people never ended up wanting nor retrieving their items from storage yet ended up paying for years of storage.
SO – we decided to give our things to charity and to sell some of them. Daniel Sanders made the potential nightmare of doing this a breeze. He was very professional and accurate, unlike some of his competitors whom we also interviewed. He gave us realistic estimates regarding which items would sell and for how much. We originally opted for an in-home auction but later decided to give a lot of furniture to family. We had our possessions divided between an auction house and charity. Daniel coordinated the entire effort. It was completed in one day and our home was left clean and undamaged despite the fact that we filled up more than two moving trucks. While the check for our auction items took a bit longer to arrive than we had expected, we did achieve the expected target sales amount. Overall, we would most highly recommend Daniel and his Four Sales team and partners.

Daniel Sanders and his Four Sales people have really taken a load off my back by selling my lifetime collection of antiques, jewelry, rare books, pottery, and other valuables.
Like so many others as they get older, I needed to downsize but didn’t have a clue as how to do it. The Four Sales team did a great job of making sure I understood what to expect and then over-delivered. Daniel sold everything for me and I received better prices than I expected.
I recommend Daniel and the Four Sales Team highly to others looking to empty a house, sell high-value collectibles or just lighten the load of stuff in their home.

About two years ago I moved out to the DC area from Chicago. Driving around looking for something to do on a Saturday morning I ran across an Estate Sale put on by Four Sales LTD and stopped to check it out. I was very impressed on how organized everything was and how friendly and knowledgeable the Four Sales employees were that were working the event. I was told that there was another sale coming up the following weekend that I might be interested in. After attending that one I was hooked. The Four Sales web site is very easy to use. I recommend getting on the e-mail list because it lets you know a few days in advance about sales and auctions coming up. The announcements have multiple pictures and a detailed list of items for sale that give you a good idea of what to expect. I always go with an item or two in mind to check out and come home with a lot of other things that I did not know I needed until I saw them. I have purchased everything from garden tool, shop equipment, antique furniture and Art at these sales and have always been please with what I got. I cannot recommend enough to people that when you are looking for that piece of furniture that defines a room there is no place better to find it than at one of the Four Sales LTD estate sales or auctions. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a quality organization to help them close out an estate.

Having recently been faced at the age of 78 with a dramatic Downsize from our beautiful home on the Potomac River in Mt Vernon Va with 6400 sq ft and 1000 sq ft of storage area to a Continuing Care Retirement Community apartment of 1850 sq ft…my wife and I were overwhelmed with the expected trauma of what to do with 55 years of “Stuff/Treasures” we couldn’t take with us…so we interviewed four recommended Estate Sale Companies, visited their onsite sales and decided from our own direct on site comparative observations at each sale that the best would be “Four Sales”.
We were delightfully pleased that they exceeded our expectations in every way. They treated our home with respect, dignity, professional pricing and management of the three day sale as though all the contents for sale were their own personal property. When the staff found boxes with personal finance papers, they set them aside telling me I should not allow Social Security numbers to go to the dump where they could be compromised…but should have the papers shredded instead. As opposed to a “Yard Sale, the staff found things that they brought to our attention saying “Do you really want to part with this treasure?”…all in our personal best interest. Several neighbors in the area came to the sale and called us to tell us how impressed they were with the “Four Sales” Team…pointing out that the on site manager, Mark…really was an outstanding leader of the extremely well run operation.
The staff greeted all prospective buyers with “Can we help you focus on your interests?” in a way that turned “browsers” into buyers. While we were advised by the site manager and the owner of “Four Sales” not to come to the house to see our home of 55 years deconstructed and potentially implode emotionally…we couldn’t stay away…and found all the above so pleasing and uplifting, knowing that almost all our treasures not sold would either go to Goodwill or several other charities instead of the dump…made our day.
Four Sales was assisted in the clearance effort by one of their partners. They did a great job helping to empty the home of the 15% or so of unsold items – especially knowing that less than 50% of every truck goes to the landfill. They do this by making low-end donations and recycling before the trucks head to the actual dump. Like the Four Sales team, they treated our home with respect and worked with us in a kind and caring manner.
So…if you want an Estate Sale that is run as a professional business in your best interests and ranks a Perfect “10”…turn to Daniel Sanders and his first class team…they will deliver!

Thanks for your excellent advice. I'm moving from a 9 room house to an apartment and called Four Sales to determine if an estate sale was the best way to downsize our household. Thank you for your work in selling my sister's estate. Since I live in the Philadelphia, PA area and the sale took place in Northern Virginia it was difficult for me to know the estate market and how to go about having an estate sale. Then you and your Four Sales team came in and handled the sale and the cleaning of the property. My buyer's real estate agent said the house was cleaned to their satisfaction and that I didn't have to travel to VA for the final clean-up.
There is one other very important element which I must address, and, that is the element of security of the sale goods. Your people stopped a neighbor from removing important papers and signed photographs that were in the sale without paying for them. It was your people who were safeguarding my property for my benefit. I thank you very much for your astute concern for the safety of my property.
I would most certainly recommend Four Sales to others who are seeking to have a most efficient and productive estate sale.

Over the past several months, I had the pleasure to work with Four Sales on an estate sale of the property from my parent's residence. The overall experience was both a very positive one and effortless. In picking Four Sales, we investigated several other firms. Many didn’t even respond and the ones that did required money up front just to assess the effort.
Four Sales came out, provided initial guidance on the multiple approaches to the assets from the residence. We had items that were applicable to both basic and luxury auctions. We also had items that were appropriate for charities and of course some items that were only suitable for disposal. You would think with all the different approaches needed that our involvement would be substantive. On the contrary. Four Sales handled all of the items efficiently, expeditiously and completely to our satisfaction. I could not be more pleased as the house was ready for sale once they completed picking up the various items.

Daniel Sanders and the whole Four Sales experience could not have been better from my point of view as executor of an artist's estate. Daniel was very, very helpful both in explaining the process, the ways to maximize returns and lessen the hassle. He did not waste time but was very willing to answer questions, and provide useful and thoughtful advice. It was through Daniel that I found the very capable realtor who handled the sale of the house.
The crew that set up and conducted the sale were experienced, efficient, polite and a pleasure to work with. The estate contained an eclectic collection of art, furniture and household furnishings, some valuable some not and quite difficult to discern the difference. To value these items took appraisers/curators specializing in different areas. Much of their work was then reviewed and if needed further researched. It also contained over 30 large original oil paintings and an equal or greater number of smaller works by the decedent.
The sales itself was orderly and very successful. Publicity and produced a crowd that began assembling two or three hours before hand. Some who lined up were aggressively interested in certain items, yet the opening was orderly, efficient and without acrimony.
The receipts were more than Daniel had estimated and a check for the net proceeds was received within ten days. The house was as promised broom clean and all trash was removed by the end of the day. Charities had arrived and taken what they could use on time and by the end of the day, the house was "broom clean" and all trash was removed.
I an happy to recommend Four Sales without hesitation or qualification.

I live in Sarasota, Florida and was unable to manage the day to day work of clearing out my parents’ house in Falls Church, with over sixty years of memorabilia collected from all over the world. In addition to all the stuff, there were disagreements between the siblings which made the process even more difficult, both emotionally and physically.
Daniel helped walk me through scenarios of options and ways to negotiate with the rest of the family so that everyone had their needs met equitably, without stepping on each other’s feelings. He provided an appraiser to let us know how much the items that we each wanted were worth, so that we could equalize the distribution of contents.
As well, we were able to auction those items that truly had value but that the children did not want to keep; which was a relief since we did not want to simply give or throw them away. Perhaps the best part was knowing that the non-auction items could go to charity; and the unusable items would be hauled away; with the house left in turnkey condition and ready to be sold.
Most of this took place while I was 500 miles away. I highly recommend Four Sales for a soup to nuts job, including some hand holding.

I would like to express my appreciation to the crew who came to pick up my son's things for charity. They were incredibly considerate and kind and made a very sad situation seem a little less painful. They also did a wonderful job of doing everything on their own without any guidance or direction from me which again made it a bit easier. I very much appreciate their sensitivity and gentleness. Their expressed desire to donate his things, including things I had included for the trash, made me feel all my son's belongings would not go to waste and would be appreciated. The clean-up operation after the sale was exactly was exactly as promised--- broom clean. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful Estate Sale that your company recently conducted for my parents in Alexandria, Virginia.
The Estate Sale took place as my parents were preparing to move to a retirement community so it was understandably a very busy, hectic time for the whole family. This had me concerned as I was afraid the Estate Sale would add yet more for my parents to worry about when their plates were already quite full.
My concern was completely unnecessary however as your staff made the very complicated process of preparing for and holding the Estate Sale as easy as possible for my parents. Your staff was incredibly supportive and professional throughout the whole process. Your first employee showed up an hour early to explain and answer any questions about how the whole process of the Estate Sale would take place. Then when the rest of the team showed up to start the large task of setting up for the sale, they couldn't have been more efficient or reassuring to my parents that everything was going to progress smoothly.
Sure enough when the Estate Sale was held the next Friday and Saturday things couldn't have run any better than they did. Everything was priced and ready to go and the proceeds from the sale exceeded my parents' expectations. Your staff's excellence didn't end with the sale, but continued afterwards as they took care of everything having to do with donating the portion of the unsold items that charities would accept & disposing of the others.
